Test Epsilometer

History
The principle epsilometer test was first described in 1988 and introduced commercially in 1991 by AB Biodisk.
Principle
The Etest is essentially an agar diffusion method.
The Etest with a rectangular strip that has been impregnated with drugs under study. A lawn of bacteria was inoculated on the surface of an agar plate and the Etest strip was placed at the top, the drug is diffused into the agar, producing an exponential gradient of the drug to be tested. There is an exponential scale printed on the tape. After 24 hours of incubation, an elliptical zone of inhibition occurs, and when the ellipse is the band gives a reading of the least (MIC) drugs.
Validation
The test has been validated for many organizations cons broth or agar dilution method and proved to have excellent correlation. This is a partial list of organisms and antibiotics for which the test has been validated.
